The Infinity Symbol

The Infinity Symbol, \infty, is described as endlessness or boundless in a mathmatical sense. The symbol was introduced by John Wallis in 1655. Although the origin is unknown, a possibility is that it comes from the Latin word, lemniscus, which means "ribbon."
The Infinity symbol is used in almost anything, including mathematical subjects such as physics, calculus, complex analysis, set theory, nonstandard analysis, and geometry, just to name a few. Not to mention, the infinity symbol is used in wedding bands and other jewelry symbolizing eternal love.
Infinity is also used in the arts. For instance, M.C. Escher is particularly known for using the infinity concept in his works of art.
